📋 BACKGROUND DOSSIER

In the family homes, estates, and hallowed halls of education of New England's academic elite, the name Cason resonates with a legacy of erudition and a penchant for delving into the occult's enigmatic depths. Ezra Cason, an erudite gentleman of just 30 years of age, is the scion of the illustrious Cason family, esteemed for their generations-long dedication to scholarly pursuits in the realms of the occult and esoteric knowledge.

Ezra's childhood started in the town of Fiddler's Green, WV where the family home estate is—though his parents were often going to the New England area as they were well respected academicians. His upbringing was unlike that of his peers, steeped in an atmosphere where the mystique of the arcane permeated every corner of the ancestral manor. From an early age, he found himself entranced by the forbidden allure of ancient tomes, cryptic manuscripts, and esoteric artifacts that adorned the family's opulent library. He often lingered near the adults during the various and many parties his family would host—listening to the stories, theories, and tales of the occult. Many close family friends of the Casons—the who's who of New England's academic elite—attended these parties: the MacInneses, Harrisons, Watkins, Femmers, and many others.

Though Ezra grew up upper class, the generational Cason estate stood as a bastion of knowledge, a place where learning and studying were given the highest priority.

Guided by his family's rich heritage, Ezra embarked on a scholarly journey. He pursued his education at Brown University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Computers and Cryptography. He immersed himself in his studies. Ezra went on to receive his PhD in Computer Science from Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts.

Ezra's academic pursuits, however, were not confined to the walls of academia alone. Fueled by an insatiable thirst for forbidden knowledge, he embarked on wondrous expeditions to distant lands, from the shadowed catacombs beneath European cities to remote corners of Asia where his sharp research skills were incredibly useful. His travels brought him face-to-face with arcane texts, hidden relics, ciphers, and much more, helping broaden his understanding of the world around him.

Now, in his early thirties and standing as a beacon of great scholarship, Ezra is a distinguished adjunct professor at both Miskatonic and Brown University, as well as a highly sought-after guest lecturer on researching and hacking techniques. Now fully recognized within the esteemed lineage of the Cason family, and his mind a repository of immense wisdom, Ezra was recently working with a small group of paranormal investigators in the Miskatonic area; however, that crew was short-lived. This is when his old Brown College dorm roommate, and long-time friend Bertram "Bertie" Wooster, reached out to Ezra. Bertie and Ezra have worked on many projects in the past. Bertie recently joined up with a small start-up investigation company, C.U.R.S.E.D., and knowing Ezra would have some useful skills for this new group, reached out and asked Ezra to join. Ezra jumped at this opportunity as he was wanting to get back to his core knowledge of computers and cryptography.

👁️ WITNESS ACCOUNTS

Jordan Scott (Investigator 66), Post-Incident Report:
"He spent two days decoding Elias Par's sermons—pages of corrupted prayer with syllables scattered across decades of text. Nobody else saw the pattern. Then he walks into the root cellar, cuts his palm open over the defaced Bible, and speaks the name. Just... says it. The candles blew out. Something screamed—not a person, something deeper than that. When the light came back, the circle was empty and Ezra was holding a bandage to his hand asking if anyone had antiseptic. Like he'd just finished a crossword."
Recorded: Post-Incident Report, Case #WS-98, Stillwater Estate, WV
Bureau Cybersecurity Division:
"The logs were disappearing in real-time. System entries just—gone. Then the surveillance footage started wiping. No external breach, no human input. The building was erasing its own memory. Anyone else would have killed the power. Cason pulled up a terminal and started typing. He spent forty minutes talking to it—proposing compromises, negotiating boundaries. The dot-matrix printers ran the entire time, spitting out scenarios. Eventually it agreed to his terms. He treated a rogue AI like a dissertation defense."
Recorded: Technical Analysis, Case #CB-98, Argencorp Facility

🔍 BUREAU OBSERVATIONS

Ezra has proven to be an invaluable asset in research and cyber operations, particularly in cases involving encrypted communications, digital forensics, occult texts, and esoteric phenomena. His unique combination of cutting-edge technical skills and deep occult heritage makes him singularly effective at bridging the gap between the modern and the arcane.

BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS - ENTRY #089-001
• Subject demonstrates exceptional analytical rigor; approaches the supernatural with the same methodical precision as a cryptographic puzzle
• Maintains emotional distance from subjects of study—consistent with his Judge drive's Aloofness downfall
• Shows deep reverence for knowledge and scholarly tradition; protective of rare texts and artifacts
• Prefers research environments with access to extensive libraries and computing resources
• Social interactions tend toward the formal; most comfortable in academic or intellectual settings

📂 FIELD RECORD

NOTABLE CASE CONTRIBUTIONS:

Circuit Breaker (Argencorp): Uncovered the rogue AI's self-preservation algorithm and unauthorized control commands; found impossible badge-swipe anomalies (Brad Nielson in two places at once); led the negotiation with the AI that resulted in its isolation—preventing both termination and unchecked autonomy

Whispers at Stillwater (Stillwater Estate, WV): Led the banishment ritual against Sulemazoth using his Cason bloodline; decoded Elias Par's sermons and identified the entity's true name; used his own blood as a Cason heir to complete the rite

Deep Freeze (Pituffik Space Base): Uncovered the SIFU loyalty stress-test program—proved the entire incident was a deliberate human experiment; found programmed HVAC manipulation and personnel selected as "expendable security threats"

False Light (Wilkes County, NC): Discovered a temporal anomaly—an academic paper in his own handwriting dated five years in the future; researched mountain folklore and occult activity that informed the investigation

Tales from the Trailer Park (Muleshoe, TX): Library research support; co-addressed the town hall with Jordan to calm the community

⚠️ CURRENT STATUS

Ezra is currently active in research and cyber operations, splitting his time between CURSED assignments and his adjunct teaching positions at Miskatonic and Brown Universities. He maintains access to both institutions' research resources.

⚠️ ACTIVE RESEARCH & CYBER OPERATIONS ⚠️

Currently conducting research across multiple ongoing cases. Maintains academic positions at Miskatonic and Brown Universities. Leveraging family estate library and university resources for CURSED operations.
