FIELD CAPABILITIES

PRIMARY SKILLS:
• Field Exploration & Navigation: Route-finding and survival in remote, inaccessible, and high-altitude locales
• Anthropology & Occult History: Superstitions and supernatural beliefs of ancient cultures, with deep roots in Incan and Andean traditions
• Hurled Weapons & Explosives: Grenades, thrown weapons, and field chemistry
• Scouting & Stealth: Locating hidden sites and objects, and approaching them undetected
SPECIALIZATION: Field Researcher
TRAINING: Master's degree, Superstitions and Supernatural Beliefs of Ancient Cultures; raised around Incan field research in Cusco, Peru; independent expedition consulting for private clients
LANGUAGES: English, Spanish

📋 BACKGROUND DOSSIER

Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Mordecai was then primarily raised in Cusco, Peru by American expatriates who moved there to study the Incan culture and ruins, teaching Incan studies at the nearby UNSAAC university (Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco).

It was there, high in the Andes mountains near the slopes of the majestic Machu Picchu, that Mordecai first discovered his love for exploring and researching the unknown. After finishing his master's degree in the States on the Superstitions and Supernatural Beliefs of Ancient Cultures, he quickly crossed paths with Ezra Cason due to similar academic circles and interests. After doing some independent consulting work for some wealthy private clients as an overqualified treasure hunter, Mordecai eventually found himself an arguably more moral (if not less safe) job working for an obscure branch of the FBI of all places...

👁️ WITNESS ACCOUNTS

Bureau Records Division:
"No witness accounts on file. Subject has not yet been deployed on a logged Bureau case. Accounts will be appended following first field assignment."
Recorded: Intake Review, 1999-05-10

🔍 BUREAU OBSERVATIONS

Mordecai brings a rare combination to field research: a scholar's grounding in the supernatural beliefs of ancient cultures and the practical experience of actually reaching the remote, inaccessible places those beliefs came from. His Explorer background and fondness for thrown weapons and field chemistry make him as useful clearing a path into a site as he is interpreting what is found there.

BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS - ENTRY #028-001
• Subject over-prepares for every deployment; arrives with contingency gear and a working knowledge of the terrain—consistent with his Survivor drive's Preparedness quality
• Habitually anticipates the worst-case outcome and is slow to trust good news, witnesses, or easy answers—consistent with his Cynicism downfall
• Equally comfortable in an archive or a collapsed ruin; pairs academic rigor with a hands-on field approach
• Handles grenades and improvised chemical devices with a familiarity that warrants inventory oversight
• Prior private-sector "treasure hunting" work leaves a network of collectors and clients; artifact chain-of-custody should be reviewed

📂 FIELD RECORD

NOTABLE CASE CONTRIBUTIONS:

No case contributions on record. Prior independent expedition consulting for private clients is not part of the Bureau file.

⚠️ CURRENT STATUS

Investigator 28 is newly assigned to field research and has not yet been deployed on a logged Bureau case.

⚠️ ACTIVE FIELD RESEARCH ⚠️

Recently onboarded; awaiting first field assignment. Personal explosives inventory logged and under review.

📊 CHARACTER ASSESSMENT

Mordecai Engelbert is a trained scholar of ancient superstition who has actually gone to the places those superstitions came from—and come back. His preparedness makes him difficult to catch off guard, even as his cynicism means he rarely expects anything to go right.

BUREAU ASSESSMENT: PROVISIONAL — NEW RECRUIT
